LYME ACADEMY OF ART, 1981-1983
After living in rural Quebec for seven years, I decided to return back to the Southeastern Connecticut shore where I had spent many summers as a child with my grandparents and extended family members. I enrolled in the newly opened Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT. The Lyme Academy offered a solid foundation in academic studio art techniques. Undergraduate years in Ohio were more focused on studying current trends in modern art. Many hours were spent at the academy studying the anatomy of the figure and head, the mixing of colors, the use of perspective, and the effect of light and shadow. This practical work coupled with my previous studio art experiences provided a good preparation for later artwork and my career as a middle school and high school art teacher.
